Renovation of the Courtyard and Partial Restoration of the Building Complex in Zouchouri, Larnaka
The Zouchouri Mosque and the surrounding building complex – consisting of the courtyard, perimeter buildings, and the former Turkish-Cypriot market – constitute one of the most important ancient monuments of Larnaca.
The project involves the construction of new paved areas, the creation of green spaces, rest areas, and a space for small events, accessibility facilities for people with disabilities (PWDs), the maintenance and restoration of the interior facades of the buildings, the restoration and upgrading of the guesthouse, and the restoration of the ground-floor building for use as a management and information office.
The aim of the project is the functional and aesthetic improvement of the site, highlighting the historic and traditional character of the area, and establishing a functional connection with the surrounding areas of Larnaca city center.
Expected Benefits / Outcomes
The revitalization and upgrading of this area, which had shown signs of decay, significant deterioration of the built environment, and changes in its demographic character, is expected to highlight its historic and traditional character, attracting both local residents and foreign visitors.
