Evanthia’s Pieridou Municipal Home for the Elderly (Melathron)

The Evanthia’s Pieridou Municipal Home for the Elderly is a project with a long history and significant social contribution. It was founded in 1910 as a donation by the great benefactor of Larnaca, Evgenia Pieridou, and was fully renovated by the Municipality of Larnaca during the period 1965–1975.

During 2024–2025, the facility underwent complete demolition and reconstruction, transforming it into an ultra-modern and welcoming establishment, designed with full respect for the needs of elderly residents. The new building was inaugurated on 9 January 2026 by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, during the mayoralty of Mr. Andreas Vyras.

The Home has a capacity of 48 residents and is housed in a building with a total area of 1,724 square meters, developed over two floors. It includes 22 double rooms and 4 single rooms, offering comfort, safety, and dignified living conditions, based on established admission criteria.

The project, with a total value of €3.6 million, includes a lounge equipped with smart assistive systems for people with hearing impairments, a dining hall, a courtyard with spaces for relaxation and social interaction, modern safety systems, air conditioning, and underfloor heating. Full accessibility for persons with disabilities is ensured through ramps and elevators, as well as a modern professional kitchen for daily meal provision.

The preservation of the name Evgenia Pieridou constitutes a modest tribute to a great benefactor whose selfless contribution played a decisive role in the social development of Larnaka.

The project was implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Program ‘THALEIA 2021-2027’, co-financed by the EU.

The Evanthia’s Pieridou Municipal Home for the Elderly, is located on Panagias Chrysogalaktousis Street, number 8, Postal Code 6050, Larnaka.
